Quote: "We are expecting the Ukrainian president's visit to the United States to be arranged at the earliest possible date in November in order to complete the final stages and reach an agreement with President Trump."
Details: Umierov stressed that the Ukrainian side values the productive and constructive meetings in Geneva between the Ukrainian and US delegations, as well as President Trump's consistent efforts aimed at ending the war.
According to Umierov, the delegations reached a common understanding of the key terms of the agreement discussed in Geneva.
Ukraine is now counting on the support of its European partners for the next steps.
Background:
- The US administration, in cooperation with the Russian side, has developed a 28-point plan for a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine, some provisions of which were completely unacceptable for Ukraine, such as the loss of part of its territory. Moreover, Trump set a deadline for President Zelenskyy to sign this plan – 27 November.
- Talks between the American side and the Ukrainian delegation, headed by Head of the President's Office Andrii Yermak, were organised in Switzerland. The delegation also included Rustem Umierov, National Security and Defence Council Secretary; Kyrylo Budanov, Head of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine; and representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the military leadership.
- As a result of the negotiations in Geneva, an updated version of the "peace plan" agreed with European partners has appeared, which includes 19 points. The Russians have already stated that they consider it "unacceptable".
