Details: Speaking at a meeting of the British-Irish Council in Wales, Martin said that a meeting of the National Security Council will take place at the end of December to discuss the drone incident.

Quote from Martin: "Suffice to say that since the onset of the Ukrainian war there's been heightened activity on the cyber security front, in terms of maritime issues and in terms of drones."

More details: Martin also said that the security operation around Zelenskyy's visit to Ireland this week went "particularly well". It will be reviewed in the context of countering drones, he added.

Nevertheless, he declined to say whether Russia was involved, noting that he would refrain from commenting "until we have a full review".

Background:

  • Media outlets earlier reported that four unidentified drones were flying towards the flight path of Zelenskyy's aircraft as it was landing at Dublin Airport.
  • The same drones also reportedly spied on the Irish naval vessel LÉ William Butler Yeats, which had been secretly deployed near Dublin.
  • During Zelenskyy's official visit to Ireland, the two countries signed a five-year partnership roadmap.
  • In 2024, Norwegian authorities prosecuted a man for flying a drone during a visit by Zelenskyy.
