A Russian Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone has been found in the Izmit district near the city of Kocaeli in Türkiye.

Source: Turkish news agency ILKHA, as reported by European Pravda.

Details: The drone was discovered in a rural area on 19 December. Local residents found it and immediately alerted the authorities.

Police who arrived at the scene quickly cordoned off the area and restricted access.

Specialised personnel are working to determine whether the drone was shot down, suffered a technical failure or made an emergency landing.

The UAV was moved to a secure facility for detailed forensic and technical analysis, including examination of data storage systems, onboard cameras and communications equipment.

This is the second drone incident in Türkiye in the past week. It was reported on 15 December that Turkish fighter jets shot down an "out-of-control" drone flying from the Black Sea. Türkiye did not disclose which country the drone belonged to.

The two incidents have not been officially linked. Sources told ILKHA that the investigation is being coordinated by the Ministry of National Defence, the National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) and law enforcement.

Background: Türkiye warned Russia and Ukraine to exercise greater caution over security in the Black Sea after its air force shot down a drone earlier.
