Russians advance in Myrnohrad and near Huliaipole – DeepState

DeepState, a Ukrainian group of military analysts, has updated its map, reporting advances by Russian forces in the city of Myrnohrad in Donetsk Oblast and near Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Background:

• On 27 December, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin claimed that given the pace of the Russian advance, Russia has "zero" interest in the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdrawing from the territories they occupy. Putin said this during a visit he allegedly made to a Russian command post ahead of the meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the US regarding the peace plan. TASS reported that Putin was briefed on the alleged Russian occupation of Myrnohrad and Huliaipole, as well as several other settlements.
• However, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Russian claims about the capture of Huliaipole and Myrnohrad are false and primarily aimed at foreign partners.
• The General Staff said the situation in Huliaipole is difficult, but the defensive operation in the settlement is ongoing. Ukrainian defenders are continuing to actively wipe out Russian infantry groups in the city.
• The operational situation in Myrnohrad also remains difficult, but Russian units, as before, have failed to realise their plans to capture the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, so they are resorting to using the weapon of disinformation.
