Details: "Today, maximum forces have been involved to restore the operation of the energy system after another cynical Russian strike," she wrote on Telegram.

"Since yesterday evening, energy facilities in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv have sustained significant damage. These were complex strikes – involving ballistic missiles," the statement says.

As a result of the relevant work carried out, as of now, electricity and heat supply have been restored in the city of Kryvyi Rih as well as in settlements in Kyiv Oblast.

"Regarding the city of Kyiv, the situation remains the most difficult. Electricity supply has now been restored to the vast majority of the right bank of the capital – planned outage schedules are in effect. Emergency outages are being applied in certain areas where the repair process is ongoing," Svyrydenko said.

"On most of the left bank, emergency outages are being applied and the repair process on electricity supply is at the final stage. By the end of today, a transition to planned schedules is planned," she noted.

On heat supply: repairs are ongoing, but a significant part of the capital currently remains without heat. Relevant services are working and will continue to work continuously to bring heat supply back to people as quickly as possible.

"The government is providing all necessary assistance to complete the repair process as quickly as possible. At the same time, we expect active actions from local authorities as the owner of the damaged combined heat and power plants," the prime minister noted.

Given the number of people currently without heat and electricity, the prime minister instructed all relevant services to ensure uninterrupted operation of invincibility centres [heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.] and to deploy additional ones as widely as possible.

"This task concerns not only the capital but also other settlements in the country. The government will also additionally involve resources of large state-owned companies and banks to ensure support for Ukrainians," Svyrydenko wrote.

"I also instructed all relevant ministries and oblast military administrations to ensure proper and regular communication about the current situation. All state bodies and services are working in an intensified mode to overcome the severe aftermath of hostile attacks", she added.

Background:

  • Energy workers brought back power to almost 153,000 homes in the capital after the strikes.
  • It was previously reported that an emergency repair process is ongoing in Kyiv after overnight large-scale Russian attack. Water supply in the capital has been fully restored.
  • Half of Kyiv's apartment buildings – almost 6,000 – are currently without heating after critical infrastructure in the capital was damaged in a large-scale Russian attack.
  • Utility workers have connected essential facilities – in particular hospitals and maternity hospitals – to mobile boiler houses.
  • Klitschko urged residents to leave the city if they have the option.
  • Kyiv City Military Administration said that draining water is a standard technical measure in sub-zero temperatures and does not imply an extended period with no heating.
