Zelenskyy counts on US initiative concerning de-escalation in Russian war against Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he hopes for initiative from the US, in particular on de-escalation measures in Russia's war against Ukraine.
Source: Zelenskyy's evening address
Details: Zelenskyy said he had heard a report from the Ukrainian negotiation team.
He mentioned the planned trilateral meeting in UAE on 4 and 5 February.
Quote: "I have just spoken with Rustem Umierov [delegation head and Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council – ed.]. I have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow to agree on the framework of the meeting and prepare everything. On Monday evening, our team will already be on the way to negotiations.
Many leaders from different countries are with us in this process in support of Ukraine and we coordinate virtually every day. In February, our foreign policy activity will be quite serious, and from tomorrow we'll be engaged in contact and meetings.
We hope that the US will be just as active, in particular about de-escalation measures such as reducing the number of strikes. Much depends on what the US will manage to do, to make our people trust in both the process and the results without any doubt."
