Details: Together with Davyd Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People party and the ruling parliamentary faction, Umierov also met Fabrizio Saggio, the diplomatic advisor to the Italian prime minister, and representatives of security agencies.

The parties also agreed on further steps of cooperation.

Ukrainian officials met with the management of Italy's largest defence companies separately. The focus was on strengthening the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, particularly the development of air defence capabilities.

Background:

  • Two days of talks with the United States and Russia in Geneva on possible parameters for bringing an end to the war were concluded by the Ukrainian delegation led by Rustem Umierov on 18 February.
  • In Geneva, Umierov also held a separate meeting with representatives from the United States as well as France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. For the first time, European representatives were present on-site at the talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia, although they did not participate directly.
  • Earlier, Axios reported that political group talks in Geneva on 17 February "reached a stalemate" because of the positions put forward by Russia's new chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky.
