Zelenskyy urges EU to provide €5bn for Ukraine's energy sector

Details: Zelenskyy said the funds are needed to quickly protect the Ukrainian energy network and rebuild infrastructure destroyed by Russia.

Funding of at least €5 billion is now needed to ensure energy stability for the coming winter, as part of the €90 billion support package.

• Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine's Energy Minister, said that Ukrainian engineering teams had inspected decommissioned facilities in the European Union to identify equipment needed by Ukrainian energy companies.
• At a meeting of the Coordination Centre for implementing comprehensive resilience plans for regions and cities, officials responsible for key areas were appointed, and the government allocated the first US$22.6 millions from the reserve fund for implementation.
• The total need for reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine's energy sector over the next ten years amounts to US$90.6 billion.
