Details: According to BelTA, Lukashenko asked the US president's representative to discuss not only regional issues and Ukraine, but also the war in the Middle East.
"I think my view on global problems, especially on the situation in the Middle East, will be important for you, since you are at war with our friends. And I am ready to speak frankly on this topic," Lukashenko said.
For his part, John Coale asked whether this referred to the war with Iran.
"Yes, I would very much like you to convey my view to Donald Trump. I still remain a supporter of your president, despite certain mistakes, as I believe, by the United States," Lukashenko said.
This is the latest round of communications between Belarus and the US. Lukashenko has met with John Coale several times. The previous meeting took place in mid-December 2025.
Background:
- Earlier, Belarusian opposition activist and former political prisoner Siarhei Tsikhanouski said that a decision on the release of a group of political prisoners is expected as a result of the visit by the US delegation to Minsk.
- Since summer 2025, after contact between the Trump administration and Lukashenko and the easing of US sanctions, more than one hundred Belarusian political prisoners have been released from prison.
- At the end of February, the well-known political prisoner Mikola Statkevich was released from a penal colony after being imprisoned in September 2025 following his refusal to leave Belarus.
