More drones, fewer troops: Zelenskyy outlines changes in Russian tactics

Russian forces have increased the use of drones in the southeast of Ukraine while deploying fewer personnel due to training limitations.

Quote: "Regarding the build-up near Pokrovsk and across the southeast of the front – they [the changes – ed.] are present. Weather changes are a factor; we see more drone operations, but fewer actions involving personnel. We believe the enemy faces challenges. There are issues with the training of their troops."

Details: Zelenskyy reported that Russian losses between 1 January and 26 March amounted to 89,000 personnel killed or severely wounded. He added that Russia planned to mobilise 409,000 people in 2026, of which only 20-22% were actually mobilised – around 80,000 as of March.

Speaking about the frontline situation on the morning of 31 March, Zelenskyy added that the situation remains under control.
