Ukraine brings back 1,000 bodies, said by Russia to be Ukrainian servicemen

On 9 April, Russia handed over to Ukraine the bodies (remains) of 1,000 deceased individuals who, according to early reports from the Russian side, may belong to Ukrainian servicemen.

Quote: "Repatriation measures took place today, as a result of which the bodies (remains) of 1,000 deceased individuals were returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, the returned bodies belong to Ukrainian military personnel."

Details: Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with forensic experts from the Interior Ministry system, will now work to identify the repatriated individuals. Once identification is completed, the bodies will be handed over to families for proper burial.

Background: The previous repatriation of bodies from Russia took place on 26 February, when 1,000 bodies (remains) were also returned to Ukraine.
