Ukrainian forces have posted a video showing a US-made Patriot air defence system used to repel Russian missile and drone attacks. One interceptor missile is used per target.

Details: Oleksandr, the commander of the system, explained that his unit uses the Patriot to protect "critical infrastructure facilities in the energy sector". It can intercept both cruise and ballistic missiles used by Russian forces.

"Our team has experience in destroying ballistic and Kinzhal-type aeroballistic missiles. To repel attacks more effectively, we constantly reposition our assets and personnel and try to use as few missiles as possible," the commander said.

He said one interceptor missile is used against each Russian asset.

"Even if the engagement rules foresee the use of two to four missiles, we destroy them with one," Oleksandr explained.

More missiles for Patriot systems are needed to increase the effectiveness of countering Russian attacks.

"The equipment is in reliable hands. I am confident that the hardware will not fail, and even more so, neither will the people," the commander added.

For reference: The MIM-104 Patriot is a medium- to long-range air and missile defence system produced since 1976 and serves as the primary air defence system of the US Army. Modern configurations can intercept aerial and ballistic targets at ranges of up to 160 km and altitudes of up to 24 km.

Background: Ukrainska Pravda reported earlier that Ukraine is open to exchanging technologies and weapons with countries in the Middle East. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv may provide interceptor drones in exchange for PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. Last November, the US State Department approved the sale of equipment to Ukraine for upgrading these systems.
