Details: The evacuees took their pets with them, police said.

"Two pieces of debris flew into my apartment and shattered the window," one evacuated man said. "I was sitting by the window at the time, and it's a miracle I wasn't injured. My children's house was damaged – the roof and windows were destroyed. So we decided to evacuate."

The local residents said they could not leave their pets behind.

"I love my cats, I can't leave them," one woman said. "I hope our apartment survives, the war ends and we can return home. But living here is unbearable right now – every day we feel afraid, and we don't know what will hit us next."

Evacuations from Mykolaivka are taking place nearly every day.

"Because of the constant danger, the number of people who want to leave the town is increasing. Communication in Mykolaivka is very poor, so evacuation requests are often passed on by relatives, friends or acquaintances of the people who want to leave," police said.

Officers reported that they have taken the evacuees to a safer place. Volunteers will now help them move to other regions of Ukraine.

Background: Ukrainian soldiers recently evacuated a cat and a dog from frontline positions using an unmanned aerial vehicle which flew the animals 12 km to safety.
