Three Ukrainian energy facilities hit in Russian attack on 26 May

Russian forces hit three energy facilities belonging to DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on 26 May, leaving 63 settlements without power.

Quote: "Three energy facilities operated by the company were damaged in enemy strikes yesterday. As a result, 63 settlements in the oblast's frontline areas were left without electricity."

Details: DTEK said no employees had been injured.

Power engineers began emergency repair work as soon as it was safe to do so.

Quote: "In total, over the last two days, power has been restored to more than 33,000 consumers in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Power engineers are continuing to work to restore power to all homes as quickly as possible."

Background:

  • On 26 May, some consumers in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts were temporarily left without power due to hostilities and Russian strikes on energy facilities.
  • Food worth US$1.4 million, intended to support people in frontline areas, was destroyed when a Russian Iskander ballistic missile struck a UN World Food Programme warehouse in Dnipro.
