Details: Ukraine has repeatedly insisted on the need for an objective investigation into all the circumstances of the detention of the cash-in-transit officers and the seizure of Oschadbank valuables, as well as adequate compensation for the physical harm and emotional distress.
Quote: "We have ordered an immediate internal investigation at the National Tax and Customs Administration, the Counter Terrorism Centre and the other relevant authorities in connection with the Ukrainian 'gold convoy' case. The Prosecutor General must address the matter without delay."
Background:
- Magyar previously said he was outraged, commenting on a Hungarian media report confirming that former prime minister Viktor Orbán was responsible for an operation in March in which Ukrainian cash-in-transit staff were detained and Oschadbank assets seized.
- On 6 May, Hungary returned the Oschadbank money and valuables to Ukraine following the election defeat of Orbán's Fidesz party.
- Ukraine's Ambassador to Hungary, Fedir Shandor, stressed in an interview with European Pravda that in this case, it is important not only to return the property but also for those responsible to be held accountable.
