Details: Following this year's Ukraine Recovery Conference, which took place in the Polish city of Gdańsk, Estonia has taken over as the next host.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that Ukraine's reconstruction is the largest economic project in Europe over the coming decade. It encompasses the rebuilding of infrastructure destroyed by Russian aggression, the development of strong and democratic institutions and the country's deeper integration into the European Union.

"Since 2022, Estonia has contributed to Ukraine's reconstruction through hundreds of projects. Dozens of our companies and organisations are helping every day to rebuild Ukraine and strengthen its resilience. Bringing the conference to Estonia reflects our commitment to continuing our long-term support for Ukraine and advancing this strategic process at the international level," the minister said.

Tsahkna added that Estonia aims to involve other Baltic and Nordic countries (the NB8 format) in the preparation and organisation of the conference.

"The NB8 cooperation format enables us to bring together our region's expertise, experience and resources in order to provide even more effective support to Ukraine and put forward joint initiatives that help accelerate both the reconstruction process and Ukraine's integration with Europe," he said.

Background:

  • The fifth Ukraine Recovery Conference took place in Gdansk on 25-26 June. President Volodymyr Zelensky did not attend the event due to a renewed deterioration in Polish-Ukrainian relations. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko.
  • Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the opening of the conference that the future can only be built on truth, mutual respect and an understanding of history.
