Details: UNESCO announced the launch of the initiative during the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026) in Gdańsk, Poland. It will be implemented with financial support from the EU and Flanders.

The ministry said the programme builds on work launched in 2025 under a project to preserve Ukraine's Jewish documentary heritage. The initiative will now be expanded to cover the country's entire documentary heritage, including that of national minorities.

The project is aimed at:

  • supporting archives, libraries and other memory institutions, particularly in frontline regions
  • developing digitisation systems and long-term digital preservation
  • supporting the documentary heritage of national minorities
  • ensuring open access to documentary heritage
  • strengthening democratic resilience and countering the falsification of history.
