About 90% of Russian missiles and drones contain Japanese-made components
Electronic components made by Japanese companies have been found in around 90% of Russian cruise and ballistic missiles and UAVs.

Details: Most of the parts identified in the weapons were electronic components sold for civilian use in Japan. Kyodo News suggests that Russia is using general-purpose goods that are difficult to control in terms of export restrictions.
"According to internal Ukrainian government documents seen by Kyodo News and cited by Mr Vlasiuk, electronic components from leading Japanese semiconductor companies and other major electronics manufacturers are used in Russian military Kh-101 cruise missiles," the report said.
Journalists contacted 13 Japanese companies whose components have been found in Russian missiles and drones. Five manufacturers were unable to confirm the origin of the parts due to "limited information". One company suggested its product may have been repurposed, while another said the component identified belonged to a different company. The remaining six companies did not respond to requests.
Background:
- It was earlier reported that a quarter of American components found in Russian weapons are counterfeit and that Russians deliberately erase serial numbers on their weapons.
- Ukraine has also examined fragments of a Russian Oreshnik ballistic missile used in an attack on Lviv Oblast in January 2026. Some of its components were manufactured between 2014 and 2016.
