Drapatyi begins work as commander-in-chief, outlines tasks set out by Zelenskyy

Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi has said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed him to continue and intensify offensive operations and further strengthen the capabilities of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

Details: Drapatyi said he has assumed the duties of commander-in-chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces and confirmed that Major General Ihor Skybiuk, former commander of the Air Assault Forces, will serve as chief of the General Staff under his command.

Quote: "I first met Ihor Skybiuk in 2022 in the south of Ukraine, where we directed the operation to liberate Kherson Oblast from the same command post. Since then, I have come to know him as a commander who can be trusted in difficult situations and relied upon for his decision-making, experience and principles.

During his tenure as commander of the Air Assault Forces, he helped cultivate a new generation of military leaders, including Oleh Apostol, Dmytro Voloshyn, Yevhen Lasiichuk, Sviatoslav Zaiets, Emil Ishkulov, Andrii Tkachuk and many others.

A difficult task lies ahead, so we will work without making grand promises, while taking responsibility for our decisions and showing respect for the people holding the front line and helping Ukraine endure.

The president of Ukraine has given us clear tasks: to continue and intensify offensive operations across all domains, plan new operations behind enemy lines, develop the military and its technologies, and strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
