Ukraine hits Russia's Afipsky oil refinery and Astrakhan gas processing plant – facilities supplying Russian military

Ukraine's defence forces attacked the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on the night of 24-25 August, and struck gas separation units at the Astrakhan gas processing plant on the night of 23-24 August. Both facilities are involved in supplying the Russian military.

Quote from General Staff: "On the night of 24-25 August 2026, units of Ukraine's defence forces struck the facilities of the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. A fire on the territory of the facility has been confirmed."

According to the General Staff, the Afipsky oil refinery has a design capacity of 6.25 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant is involved in supplying Russia's armed forces and produces diesel and petrol components, among other products.

The General Staff also confirmed the strike on the night of 23-24 August on two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan gas processing plant in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast.

The facility is part of Gazprom's system. Its design capacity is up to 12 billion cubic metres of gas per year and approximately 7.3 million tonnes of gas condensate per year. The plant produces commercial natural gas, stable gas condensate, petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied hydrocarbon gases and technical sulphur.

According to the General Staff, the Astrakhan gas processing plant's products are used to supply Russia's armed forces, while technical sulphur is used in the production of explosives.
