Kyiv Oblast authorities urge schools to avoid mass celebrations marking start of school year

The Kyiv Oblast Military Administration has advised schools in high-risk areas not to hold mass celebrations to mark the start of the new school year on 1 September.

Quote: "The enemy has been attacking Kyiv Oblast almost continuously for five days in a row. Tomorrow, on 1 September, children will be going to school. And today I am appealing to all parents, teachers and heads of educational institutions to put safety first.

For this reason, the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration is advising against holding large-scale Knowledge Day celebrations in high-risk areas. Each educational institution should decide whether to hold celebrations based on the security situation in its hromada or settlement. I am asking everyone on the ground to approach this issue as responsibly as possible."

Details: If an educational institution does decide to hold a celebration, it should, where possible, be held in a shelter, Tkachenko said.

"If events are held outside a shelter, the total number of participants must not exceed the designated capacity of the available protective structure. It is also important to prevent large gatherings of children, parents and staff. I urge everyone to be guided by common sense and take account of the situation on the ground," he added.
