Zelenskyy appoints another High Anti-Corruption Court judge to unlock EU funding

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed another judge to the High Anti-Corruption Court, marking another necessary step towards unlocking EU funding under the Ukraine Facility.

Details: Zelenskyy appointed Denys Kovalenko as a judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court on 31 August.

The appointment continued the process launched on 21 August, when the president appointed 11 High Anti-Corruption Court judges and five judges to its Appeals Chamber.

Bohdan Kryklyvenko, Chief of Staff of the High Anti-Corruption Court, explained then that 16 of the 17 selected judges were appointed because the submission for the remaining judge had been prepared later.

European Pravda previously reported that Ukraine has until around 17 September to fulfil the Ukraine Facility requirement concerning the appointment of anti-corruption judges, or risk losing between €250 million and €300 million in EU funding.

European Pravda highlighted the unjustifiably long delay, which had continued since July, and called on the president to sign the decrees as soon as possible.

The progress in appointing the remaining judge means Ukraine can expect to receive the full €300 million.
