EU enlargement commissioner expects all negotiating clusters for Ukraine to be opened soon

Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, expects that all negotiating clusters for Ukraine will be opened as soon as possible.

Details: Kos said she wants the negotiating clusters for Ukraine to be opened as soon as possible.

"What is also important is I expect that as soon as possible we will be able to open all the other clusters which are waiting to be opened," Kos said.

She stressed that "Ukraine has delivered" the work required to open the clusters.

"We should deliver too," the European commissioner emphasised.

Background:

• European Pravda reported that on Tuesday 1 September, Hungary once again refused to approve the screening results for clusters 2 and 3 for Ukraine, demanding that Kyiv take certain steps to protect the rights of the Hungarian national minority.
• A previous attempt to approve the screening results on 22 July 2026 also failed because of Hungary's position. Budapest was prepared to give the green light only to progress on cluster 3 and only for Moldova.
• Ukraine opened negotiating cluster 6, External Relations, in Brussels on 14 July. Taras Kachka, then deputy prime minister for European integration, said that the opening of the remaining four clusters would not be postponed until "after the summer".
