Zelenskyy announces new air defence packages from Germany after call with Merz

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that new air defence packages from Germany will arrive this month.

Details: The conversation focused on the Russian attack on the airfield in Leipzig and a number of other issues.

Zelenskyy noted that the teams from both countries are already finalising the text of the Drone Deal.

In addition, the two leaders agreed to meet in person.

"I also thanked Friedrich for Germany's steadfast support and leadership in protecting the lives of Ukrainians – there will be new air defence packages from Germany this month," Zelenskyy wrote.

Background:

Ukraine has submitted a request to the European Commission to use several billion euros from the €90 billion loan to purchase PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defence systems.
On 1 September, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said EU member states should provide Ukraine with the interceptor missiles it needs, including those whose shelf life is about to expire.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said European leaders are considering holding another meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in the United States, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September, to discuss supplying Ukraine with Patriot interceptor missiles.
