Belarusian opposition leader warns of Russian provocations against NATO from Belarus

Russia could use Belarusian territory and military infrastructure for provocations against NATO countries and further escalation of tensions, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has warned.

Details: Tsikhanouskaya said self-proclaimed Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko remains willing to provide territory and infrastructure for potential Russian offensive or intimidation operations against the alliance.

Tsikhanouskaya, who is currently in Warsaw, said she had received information about the construction of new military infrastructure in Belarus near the border with Ukraine, as well as along the country's borders with European Union member states.

"We must be very cautious – we see that the infrastructure for Oreshnik missiles is deployed in Belarus; they are threatening and blackmailing with nuclear weapons," Tsikhanouskaya noted.

She added that Russia and Belarus are already carrying out hybrid attacks against NATO countries, targeting Lithuania, Poland and Latvia in particular.

Her comments came amid growing concern in the Baltic region about potential Russian military activity and hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, disinformation and the use of drones.
