President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russia deliberately attacked Kyiv Airport (Zhuliany) and Boryspil Airport on the night of 4-5 September for the first time in a long while.

Details: Zelenskyy linked the strikes to discussions about the possibility of a US aircraft flying to Ukraine and landing at one of the two airports.

Quote: "Clearly, these Russian strikes on the airports are a reaction to the discussions and preparations for the possibility of the US side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine and land at Kyiv Airport or Boryspil Airport."

Details: Zelenskyy said Ukraine had recorded this move by Russia and would adjust its operations concerning Russian airspace accordingly next week.

He did not provide details of the specific consequences of the strikes on the airports.
