Ukraine to buy several thousand IRIS-T missiles from Germany using EU funds

Ukraine will purchase missiles for IRIS-T air defence systems from Germany under the defence component of the EU's €90 billion loan.

Details: Pistorius said Ukraine will purchase IRIS-T missiles from Germany using funds from the EU loan.

"I'm pleased that Ukraine is going to order several thousand additional IRIS-T guided missiles that will be funded by the EU's Ukraine defence loan," Pistorius said.

He stressed that the medium-range IRIS-T air defence system "has been used in Ukraine very, very successfully".

"We're keeping up our continuous deliveries of IRIS-T air defence systems, including guided missiles from industry production," the German minister added.

As European Pravda reported, Germany also announced ahead of the 8 September Ramstein meeting that it would transfer PAC-2 missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine.
The EU has approved the purchase of Patriot missiles for Ukraine worth €3.2 billion.
On 8 September, it became known that the UK is allocating £100 million (US$135 million) for a package of air defence equipment for Ukraine ahead of winter under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, including missiles for Patriot systems.
