US Congressman: fighting corruption would help Ukraine improve relations with US

US Democratic Congressman Eugene Vindman has stressed that Ukraine needs to combat corruption as much as possible to improve relations with the US.

Details: Vindman noted that corruption is one of the narratives Russia uses against Ukraine.

"So you need to make sure that corruption is eliminated to the maximum extent possible," he stressed.

Asked whether the US side would pay more attention to Ukraine's fight against corruption after the midterm elections, Vindman replied: "Anytime you have a corruption narrative that is taking hold, and then American people, and us as elected representatives, don't have a feeling like our efforts and the money that we're applying is being used in the best way possible, in the least corrupt way – that makes things problematic."

Therefore, the congressman believes that fighting corruption is an area where Ukraine needs to demonstrate progress.

Quote: "There are plenty of mechanisms in the Ukrainian system with NABU and the anti-corruption prosecutors, SAPO. These anti-corruption organs that have to do their work – they have to be sort of robustly guarded. Then that will be a good thing."

Background: In the same interview, Vindman expressed confidence that the House of Representatives will pass the Russia sanctions bill championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
