Kremlin calls energy truce "very good" idea but wants free maritime navigation
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, has claimed that the Kremlin considers the introduction of an energy truce with Ukraine a good idea.

Quote: "Yes, we saw President Trump's post about an energy truce. In general, we certainly consider this a very good idea, a good initiative. We maintain contact with the Americans. We are always on the side of peaceful solutions."
Details: Peskov added that if such a truce came into effect, Russia would supposedly be able to supply its domestic market with enough oil products because its refineries would operate without disruption. However, he said that when it comes to the global market, "the issue is not production".
Quote: "The issue is unobstructed access for these oil products to global markets. To achieve this, it is necessary to ensure safe commercial navigation and the safe passage of oil tankers.
But in general, we again consider this idea [of an energy truce – ed.] very good, and while being in contact with the Americans, we will continue to communicate with them."
Background:
- On 13 September, US President Donald Trump called on his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop strikes on Russian diesel fuel, claiming that such attacks are causing a global shortage.
- On 14 September, Trump said that Ukraine had agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities.
