Ukraine successfully tests another interceptor for jet-powered Shahed drones – Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that another interceptor designed to counter Russian jet-powered drones has been successfully tested.

Quote: "Today, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi reported on a new step by our manufacturers – another interceptor against Russian jet-powered drones has been successfully tested."

Details: Zelenskyy added that a Shahed drone had been successfully hit. However, he said some aspects of the interceptor's control still need further work.

"The work continues – it will take some more time. I thank the developers for their efforts!" the president stressed.

Background:

  • In late August, Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara said that Ukrainian military personnel and engineers are continuing to look for systems and means to counter Russian jet-powered UAVs, including Shaheds. The minister said there are four potential interceptors that have already undergone field testing.
  • Recently, Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, said Russia is experiencing problems with jet engines for drones.
