EU ambassadors presented with draft sanctions targeting 1,576 Russian entities

The European External Action Service (EEAS) has presented a proposal for a new sanctions package targeting Russia's defence industry at a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) on 16 September. The package covers 1,576 individuals and entities.

Details: The EU is preparing a new sanctions package targeting Russia's defence industry, covering 1,576 individuals and entities.

"This package will supplement the existing list of individuals and companies sanctioned by the EU for violating Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty," one source said.

The package contains 1,576 entries covering new individuals and legal entities linked to Russia's defence industry and supporting Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

It is worth noting that this will be the largest list ever added to the sanctions regime for violations of Ukraine's territorial integrity, which has been in place since the beginning of the war in 2014.

The next step in advancing the proposed list will be a technical review by a working group of the Council of the EU. The proposal will then return to EU ambassadors for further approval.

• As European Pravda reported, the sanctions regime for violations of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty is currently in the process of being extended. Due to the positions of France and Slovakia, the EU has extended sanctions against Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for only seven days, allowing additional time for negotiations.
• Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged the EU not to lift sanctions against Russian oligarchs.
