Yaroslavl oil refinery halts crude processing after drone attack – Reuters

Russia's Slavneft-Yaroslavnefteorgsintez (Yanos) oil refinery has halted crude oil processing on Thursday 17 September following a Ukrainian drone strike.

Details: The attack damaged the refinery's AVT-3 primary oil-refining unit. The unit has a capacity of 17,140 tonnes per day, accounting for around 40% of the plant's total refining capacity.

The plant has two other primary refining units: the AT-4, with a capacity of 11,430 tonnes per day (27%), and the AVT-4, with a capacity of 14,300 tonnes per day (33%). The AVT-4 was already undergoing repairs after being damaged in an earlier drone attack on 28 August.

Market participants said that on Thursday, fuel produced by the Yaroslavl refinery was no longer being offered for sale on the domestic commodity exchange.

The refinery is located approximately 250 kilometres north-east of Moscow.

Yanos is owned by Slavneft, which is jointly controlled by Rosneft and Gazprom Neft. The refinery has a total crude-processing capacity of 15 million tonnes per year (300,000 barrels per day). In 2024, the plant processed 14.9 million tonnes of crude oil, producing 2.6 million tonnes of petrol, 4.0 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 4.7 million tonnes of fuel oil.
