Details: Sybiha stressed that the meeting took place following the Carpathian Initiative summit, despite the recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries, and said it was successful.
"We met with Anita Orbán in New York. We are in contact. She is playing a constructive role, and I value our cooperation," he said. According to Sybiha, following those talks, the Hungarian minister said she has not ruled out the possibility of participating in the Carpathian Eight, a format initiated by Ukraine to strengthen cooperation among countries in the Carpathian region.
Sybiha also stressed that, in parallel, Orbán is "in contact with Deputy Prime Minister Vsevolod Chentsov on European matters".
"We hope to achieve a result that will clear the way for our further progress towards the European Union," he said, linking this to the adoption of amendments to the Law On Education.
"We have a draft of the relevant law. And I hope there will be a special session of the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian parliament] where, among other things, alongside the body of European legislation, a bill on national minorities will be considered. This concerns changes to education legislation. This will apply not only to the Hungarian minority but to all minorities living in Ukraine," he stated.
