Finland's National Bureau of Investigation is investigating an alleged war crime committed in Ukraine.

Source: Finnish public service media company Yle, as reported by European Pravda

Details: The police confirmed the information to Yle. Finnish law enforcement officials said the preliminary investigation began this year.

Yle notes that such a case is rare for Finnish law enforcement agencies.

The police are not currently disclosing details. In particular, they have not said when the crime may have occurred, who the victim is, or whether there are any suspects in the case.

After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Finnish police collected evidence of alleged Russian war crimes. However, the police have not specified how they learned about this particular case.

The investigation launched this year remains the only case involving an alleged war crime in Ukraine currently being handled by the National Bureau of Investigation. Such cases are extremely rare in Finland.
