Details: Trump was asked about Russia violating the "ceasefire".

"I'm not sure about that, and we'll take a look," he said.

He was also asked about the fact that Ukraine and Russia had not known that they had agreed to a truce.

"They agreed," Trump said.

"You know why? Because I said, 'you agree,' that's why. They agreed because I said they agree," he added.

When asked again about Russian attacks, Trump replied: "Well, I'd have to look at it and see because there's been violations on both sides."

Background:

  • On 11 October, Trump claimed on his social media platform Truth Social that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire.
  • On 12 October, Trump sought to justify his deal with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to purchase Russian diesel.
  • The agreement between Trump and Putin has sparked outrage in Ukraine and in European capitals.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Trump's decision to unilaterally lift sanctions on Russia and allow it to export diesel fuel was unfair and dishonest.
