Russia claims new Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries, Zelenskyy's office calls it a fake
The Russian side has spread false information about alleged new attacks on oil refineries in Russia.
Source: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, as quoted by Russian media; Dmytro Lytvyn, communications adviser to the Ukrainian president, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda
Details: Novak claimed that Ukraine had allegedly attacked two oil refineries in Russia's Saratov and Ryazan oblasts on Wednesday 14 October.
Quote from Novak: "We can see that the Ukrainian side is demonstrating no movement towards an energy ceasefire."
Details: However, there had previously been no reports of such attacks in either the Ukrainian or Russian media.
The Ukrainian president's adviser bluntly called it a Russian fake.
Quote from Lytvyn: "There were none [no attacks on oil refineries – ed.]. The Russians have spread a fake about two oil refineries allegedly being attacked. A data centre was attacked, and successfully, and some other things were attacked, but not oil refineries."
Background: On 13 October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine had not carried out strikes on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector for two days in response to a proposal by US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Russia had attacked both Ukrainian energy facilities and critical infrastructure.
