Elon Musk proposed slowing Starlink in Ukraine to Trump – The Telegraph
Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, has personally approached US President Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink services in Ukraine.
Source: The Telegraph, citing its own sources, as reported by European Pravda
Details: One source said that Trump had agreed to Musk's proposal, paving the way for the Pentagon to introduce speed restrictions on Starshield, the military version of the satellite communications system.
Musk denied responsibility for restricting access to Starlink on 14 October, blaming the White House. He claimed that "any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS".
However, following what Kyiv described as a "night of carnage" amid power cuts, a senior source said Musk was concerned about the possibility of a backlash from consumers in Europe.
Background:
- Speaking at the White House on 16 October, Trump said he does not believe that either he or Musk is responsible for Ukraine losing access to Starlink. The Pentagon has not publicly explained the reasons for the restrictions.
- US Republican Senator Thom Tillis is seeking an investigation into the Pentagon's actions with regard to problems with Starlink satellite communications systems encountered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Musk's decision to restrict Starlink's functionality for Ukraine was a mistake that would result in human losses.
