Details: Witkoff was greeted at Pulkovo airport by Kirill Dmitriev, Putin's special representative for international investment and economic cooperation.
They then travelled together to the Konstantinovsky Palace in St Petersburg.
Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists that Russia's war against Ukraine will be the main topic of Putin's talks with Witkoff.
"Talks on the Ukrainian conflict are, of course, the main part of today's meeting. The meeting was scheduled and it took several days to arrange everything. For us, for those who prepared this meeting, there was nothing secret about it," he said.
Dmitriev will also take part in the meeting. US President Donald Trump's special envoy Jared Kushner did not travel to Russia because he has come down with the flu, Ushakov added.
