Kyiv begins work on additional crossings over Dnipro River
Work has begun in Kyiv to provide additional bridge crossings over the Dnipro River, with the first expected to be ready early next year.
Source: Ukraine's Infrastructure and Recovery Minister Mykola Kalashnyk during the government Q&A in the Verkhovna Rada (parliament)
Details: Kalashnyk noted that over the past month, Russia has systematically attacked bridges across Ukraine in an attempt to disrupt transport links and logistics. Large-scale attacks have been recorded in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Kharkiv.
"There is no time to waste, so we must make prompt decisions. One such decision is the government-approved project that will enable the rapid construction of alternative bridge crossings over rivers, including the Dnipro," the minister said.
Kalashnyk reported that a total of 21 crossings are planned.
Background:
- Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko previously said that additional crossings over the Dnipro will be built in Kyiv, and experts from relevant institutions are working on further technical solutions to protect the structures of bridges across the river.
- During the Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of 26-27 October, a Russian missile struck the Pivdennyi Bridge, which was temporarily closed to traffic as a result.
