Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that his country will not allow Russia to compete in the IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, despite a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Quote from Carney: "While Russia and Belarus are supporting this illegal, unjustified, horrific war in Ukraine, as long as that's going on, there will be none of those athletes competing for their countries in Canada.
So, if you're asking specifically about the world juniors, the Russians will not be there."
Details: The tournament will take place in Canada from 26 December to 5 January 2027.
Background:
- Earlier, Czechia's top political leadership also opposed the return of Russian ice hockey players to international competitions until the war in Ukraine ends.
- Finland has already announced a boycott of matches against the Russian national team. Norway and several other countries have since joined the boycott, and the list is gradually growing.
