Tombinski: Some Untrustworthy Leaders Holding All of Ukraine Hostage

Thursday, 25 August 2016, 13:49

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Tombinski, who will leave his post soon, claims that the Ukrainian authorities don’t care enough about the issue of trust. He said this during a meeting with journalists.

"Ukraine should focus more on being a trustworthy partner. Trust is more important than money. If you can’t do something, you’d better not promise it," Tombinski said as he commented on the failure to implement Ukraine’s obligations under visa-free regime talks. He also specified that this concerns a ‘broader range of agenda matters.’

"Loss of trust affects all aspects of international relations. We in the EU prefer cooperating with those whom we trust and who can fulfil promises," he added.

Tombinski was reported earlier commenting on the current development of visa-free dialogue, stating that a "small group of people are holding the whole country hostage."
