Polish leader: Brexit May Ease Ukraine’s European Integration

Great Britain’s decision to exit the European Union may make it easier for Ukraine to integrate with Europe, the Marshal of the Sejm [ed: lower house of parliament] of Poland Marek Kuchciński said during a joint press briefing with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy in Truskavets, Lviv oblast, on June 26, Interfax Ukraine reports.

"Speaking of what might be going on in relation to the decision that Great Britain has made — I think there is an opportunity and a need to introduce changes to the way European institutions such as the European Parliament and European Commission work," he said. "Accordingly, there is a window of opportunity to change the related regulations that would make it easier for Ukraine to integrate with Europe."

Speaker Parubiy said that during the meeting of parliamentary delegations from Ukraine and Poland the deputies discussed the possibility for Ukraine to participate in the Visegrád Group, an alliance of four Central European states – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – for the purposes of furthering their European integration, as an observer state.
