Parliament Increases Fines for Drunk Driving

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine strengthened administrative responsibility for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If a person is caught drunk driving for the first time, he/she will pay a ₴10,200 ($400) fine and his/her driving license will be suspended for one year.

If he/she repeats the same crime within one year, the fine will double to ₴20,400 ($800), his/her driving license will be suspended for three years, and his/her vehicle may be seized with reimbursement of its value.

If this is the third crime of the kind, the fine will amount to ₴40,800 ($1,600), his/her driving license will be suspended for ten years, and the vehicle may be seized with reimbursement of its value.
