The number of train cars that were being held at the Ukrainian—Russian border on the way to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan reached 143 as of 9am on August 1, but 109 (74.1%) of them continued their journey via a different route, Interfax Ukraine reports.

"[Another] 33 cars were sent to the station where the cargo was taken in for transportation, which means they were returned to the cargo sender, four more remain at stations on the border," the Ukrainian authorities informed on Monday, August 1.

On January 1, 2016 Russian president Vladimir Putin issued a decree that any transit railway or automobile delivery of goods from Ukraine to Kazakhstan via Russia must go via Belarus first. On July 1, the decree was amended to include Kyrgyzstan in the destination countries.
