Avakov: Police Chiefs in Mykolaivska Oblast to Be Dismissed

Thursday, 25 August 2016, 15:21

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov stated that Kryve Ozero police district unit in Mykolayivska Oblast would be disbanded, and a new police chief would be appointed. He reported this on his Facebook page after officers were allegedly involved in the killing of Oleksandr Tsukerman (31).

"Kryze Ozero police district unit will be disbanded and manned from scratch. The new oblast police chief will be introduced today. Everyone involved in unlawful actions will be brought to justice. No effort will be made to protect ‘esprit de corps’," Avakov wrote.

"The National Police also investigates the alleged distortion of information by several officers. If proven guilty, the sanctions against them will be tough," he added.

On the night between August 23 and August 24, police officers in Kryve Ozero in Mykolaivska Oblast allegedly beat a young man to death. According to the prosecutor’s office, three police officers were directly involved. The court is requested to jail them without a bail option.

In July, the Oblast Prosecutor and police chief were changed because of a high-profile corruption scandal involving Deputy Governor Mykola Romanchuk.
