This was reported by the press service of METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine.

It was explained that the METRO Ukraine is part of the international company METRO AG, which is represented in more than 30 countries around the world. Each division is a separate "player" in the local market with a separate operating model.

Quote: "On 2 March, the Board of Directors of METRO Ukraine sent an official letter on behalf of all employees to the management of METRO AG in Dusseldorf with a request to immediately close the business in Russia."

As a result, the company has received a negative response from headquarters - allegedly "10,000 employees in Russia will lose their jobs, and sanctions imposed by the civilised world in response to Russia's aggression should affect the country's leadership and its economy, not the population."

Quote: "METRO Ukraine categorically disagrees with the position of its parent company. Our position on the need to close METRO's business in Russia remains unchanged."

They added that Ukraine is supported by a large number of colleagues from METRO markets abroad, who provide humanitarian assistance and financial support to those who were forced to leave Ukraine temporarily, as well as provide direct support to Ukrainians with essential products through the Red Cross.
