OLEKSII PAVLYSH — MONDAY, 6 JUNE 2022, 16:30

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the weapons that Ukraine will be able to deploy in the region can be acceptable guarantees for demining ports.

He said this during a meeting with journalists, Suspilne reports.

According to Zelenskyy, Turkey can mediate in unblocking ports for grain exports.

"We are ready to export grain and we are interrupting Russia's rhetoric that we do not want to export and are provoking a food crisis. We are ready, but we need a security corridor," he said.

However, when asked what guarantees are acceptable for Ukraine to demine ports, he said: "[We need] weapons that we can deploy in the region. We are working on this and we will get anti-ship missile systems. These are not threats. These will be the best guarantees."

Zelenskyy added that countries that Ukraine trusts and that are willing to take risks will be able to take part in the unblocking.

Background:

Bloomberg has recently written that Turkey and Russia have reached a preliminary agreement to ensure the export of Ukrainian grain by sea corridor from the port of Odesa; Ukraine does not comment on the information and is sceptical of the statements.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has called on Western partners not to believe Russian President Vladimir Putin's assurances that Russia will not use the export corridor through the port of Odesa to attack the city.
