Baida, a native of Zaporizhzhia, has been at the front since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014.

According to him, the Russians have committed all imaginable war crimes in Ukraine.

"Their policy is genocide… Everyone who says ‘I am Ukrainian' should be killed," he adds.

When asked why the Russians are being so cruel in Ukraine – in Bucha, Irpin, the Chernihiv region, the defender answers:

"It is permissible in their mentality, it's normal. You're in a foreign country, do what you want. The main thing is to get the job done."

The Russians still do not care about the sanctions imposed by the international community, Baida adds.

According to him, even if civilians remain at a minimum level of comfort, they will find an explanation for why it is happening.

They will never blame their leadership, but will direct their displeasure at an imaginary external enemy.

"We are unlucky to have such a neighbour who has only one intention – to destroy our statehood and the Ukrainian nation. This has been [the situation] for 500 years. Now this is just another stage in this attempt at extermination," said the fighter.

According to Baida, the Russian occupiers will move to a position of defence in the future. It will be possible to liberate all territories from the occupiers when Ukraine has a million-strong army.

"There is no political decision after which the Russians will simply leave the territory. And in the current war, Putin will stop only when his army loses resources and offensive potential.

Then proposals for negotiations will begin to appear," the fighter asserts.

Yet Baida is convinced that Ukraine will never lose its statehood.
