Direct material losses caused to Ukrainian infrastructure due to war reach $114 billion [in damages]

The total sum of material damages to the Ukrainian infrastructure caused by the Russian invasion is $114.5 billion as of 5 September.

Material damages to Ukraine from Russian attacks on civil and military infrastructure,  increased by $1 billion since the previous assessment on 30 August.

Thise increase of the total sum of material losses is due to the increase of ruined and damaged facilities among industrial enterprises, social facilities and cultural tourism and sport facilities [effectuated by]from Russian military attacks]. 

According to latest reports, since the beginning of war 412 industrial enterprises were damaged and destroyed, including large and medium sized facilities in Eastern and Southern Oblasts of Ukraine. The sum of damages caused to enterprises and industry reached $9.7 billion dollars.

The number of ruined or damaged social facilities continues to rise as well – this number is currently 141. At the same time, the sum of damages and the need for repair were corrected and decreased due to specifying the total area of damaged buildings.

As of 5 September, 1153 cultural, sports and tourism facilities worth $2 billion were damaged or destroyed by Russian military aggression. Based on a comparison of the number of damaged and destroyed facilities, Kyiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts suffered most.

In total since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine at least 15.3 thousand apartment blocks, 115.9 thousand private houses, 44 social centres, 1118 educational facilities, 1991 stores, 593 pharmacies, 188.1 thousand private cars, 9.5 thousand buses, 492 trams and trolleybuses, 978 medical facilities and 511 administrative buildings were destroyed or captured.

Background:

As of 10 August the total sum of minimal needs for repairs of the destroyed assets in Ukraine was estimated at $188 billion.
