270,000 flats in Kyiv remain without electricity: Mayor announces when situation to be stabilised

Vitalii Klychko, the Mayor of Kyiv, has announced that the electricity supply in the Ukrainian capital will be stabilised at 21:00-22:00 (Kyiv time).

Quote: "Electrical engineers are going to stabilise the situation with electricity supply at around 21:00-22:00.

But, even after restoring the electricity supply, rolling blackouts will be applied because the situation is complicated."

Details: Currently, 270,000 flats remain without electricity. And 40% of Kyiv residents are left without water supply.

The water supply of the left bank of Kyiv has been restored. Work is ongoing to restore water supply to the right bank of the capital of Ukraine.

So far, electricity has been returned to the residents of Troieshchyna and partially Podil [neighbourhoods of Kyiv – ed].

The Mayor of Kyiv has announced that the connection of Kyivvodokanal [Ukraine’s water supply enterprise] to electricity is being completed, which will allow the restoration of water supply.

In Kyiv, electricity supply was also restored to 27 pumping stations and they are available to Kyiv residents to collect drinking water.

More pumps are going to be connected. The list and addresses of pumping stations can be found on the city's official website or on the Kyivvodfond website.

Background:

  • On the morning of 31 October, due to damage to an energy infrastructure facility near Kyiv, 80% residents of Kyiv were left without water supply. 350,000 flats were cut off from the grid.
  • From 1 November, the schedule of trains will be changed in the Kyiv Metro. In order to save electricity, the intervals between trains will be 4-5 minutes during peak hours, and 8-10 minutes at other times.
  • In addition, due to power outages on part of the trolleybus and tram routes, transport operators organised public transport bus service.
